We made it onto Thrasher Mag!

...well, sort of. CSEF did!

The College Skateboarding Education Foundation, which had it's beginnings here at NCSU with NC Skate and Collegiate Skate Tour, found it's way onto a post by the one-and-only Thrasher Magazine this month.

Everyone involved in the NC Skate movement has gone on to make, and continue to make, huge impacts on the world in all different ways. Keegan, however, has stayed the course all these years and continues to reshape the way Universities and Skateboarding fit together.

Keegan has moved home base to LA and Collegiate Skate Tour is thriving now more than ever. Here are some highlights to catch you up on the journey from the past two years. Hop on the Magic Tour Bus...

Summer is the perfect time to throw your boards and back sacks into the trunk of your friend's beat up Civic and hit the road. SO to get you in the spirit, it only seems appropriate that we fill you in on the recent expeditions of Keegan Guizard and the Collegiate Skate Tour.

Keegan, a co-founder and former officer of NC Skate, graduated NCSU in 2012 as a business entrepreneur and since been traveling all over the states with his skateboard start-up company, Collegiate Skate Tour. Keegan's endeavor has opened the doors for events like the one's here in Raleigh to be held all over the country. Members of NC Skate have been hoping on this tour bus every chance they can get for the past year, and I must say it has had a gigantic impact on keeping the hype alive. Here is a video from our trip to NYC for reference.

Ramp Jam 1: Backyardigans...

Yes, it's been too long stranger.

Some significant time has passed since the last post on the NC Skate page, but that's not because or a lack of activity in the NC Skate and Raleigh, NC community. Too much has taken place to recap all in one post... and that's probably the cause for the inactivity on this page.

In the past year NC Skate traveled to NYC and Cocoa Beach, FL; we constructed our own "Beastly" mini-ramp... then deconstructed that mini-ramp (currently in the process of moving it); we got legal street plaza skate spots approved for construction in downtown Raleigh in the coming years; and the list goes on.

Instead of dropping a bomb of skate-chronology here, we will be gradually getting up to speed with posts every week or so this summer. So follow along these coming months to see what's been happening in the thriving skate land of Raleigh and to see how you can be involved. By the fall watch out for a whole new band of bros in the NC State Skateboarding Club and a consistent output of gnar.

This is a sick magazine for the homies, by the homies out of the Philly area. Pages 23-25 consist of NC Skate- Campus Orientation article, but I would recommend checking out the whole mag. It's a good one. 

North Carolina State Brainwash...

To celebrate our success from this past 2011-2012 academic year, NC Skate is teaming with Simplistix Skateboards to release our first ever limited edition club model board. Artwork was done by NCSU student and club member Ian Cochrane. This is a preview of what the board is going to look like. This is not the final product, as there are a few touch-ups to be made but other than that feast your eyes on history. 
The boards will be sold at a variety of shops throughout NC(thanks for your support!) at the price of a typical board in the shop.
More importantly we will be launching a 'Kickstarter' program to raise money to mass produce these boards and other NC Skate items. The link will be up within the next couple weeks. For anyone not familiar with Kickstarter, it is a online service for small business start-up and aspiring artists, filmmakers, etc. We set a $ amount goal and a deadline where anyone can make donations to the club. There are different levels of donations, where for each amount donated you receive compensation in the form of boards, shirts, shoutouts at our events, stickers, and/or you will be put on a special donor list that will visible on NC State's Campus and online. However, if our goal is not meet by the deadline, we are dropped from Kickstarter and you will be refunded ANY and ALL donations which you had made... like it never happened... But we know that wont happen and NC Skate will execute like we always do!

A.skate By NC Skate!

NC Skate's next epic contest is THIS Saturday, April 14th, 2012 from 1-5pm at Marsh Creek Skatepark.

This time it's more important than ever that you come and show your support as this contest is to benefit the A.skate Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps children with autism to skate, as well as promote awareness and educate families.

For the event program we have:

Dj Aztec supplying the enjoyment for your earballs
Red Bull to get you going a myllion byllion mph
Flatground skate events at the hockey rink
Best trick sessions in the park
Vitamin Water to keep you from dying of dehydration
... also just look at the flyer. We are not kidding when we say we have a lot of loot to give away!

All you need to do is print and sign our waiver and the waiver for Marsh Creek, and bring $5 for entry to all of the contest events. See you there ready to get raw!

Skate Night at the Theatre (Brick Magic Premiere)!!

We're takin' it to the big screen yo!
On Tuesday, March the 26th, from 8:30 to 11:30pm, NC Skate has complete control over the Witherspoon campus cinema on NC State's campus.
We will be premiering Volume 1 of the Brick Magic Archives, NC Skate's first full-length vid, as well as tossing up free dvd copies to everyone who comes by.
If you are a local in the Raleigh skate-scene or just a hyped friend, we hope to see you there!

Appalachian State University takes home the Cup!

Congratulations to App. State for winning the first ever North Carolina College Skateboard Championship, "The 'Cacka Cup." App came in with a stacked squad of skaters and killed it with Paul Thompson, Johnny Delgato (Aka Johnathan Wilson), and Matt Miller coming out on top.

Hotbox Pizza is giving NC Skate (NCSU's Skateboarding Club Sport) 15% of all food purchases made on Friday February 3rd. All you need to do is give them the flier above when you make your purchase. The flier can be print off this site, or retrieved from any NC Skate member. Fliers will also be flooding through campus the week before the event.

The evening of the 3rd Hotbox will be the place to be. There will be an in-store Complete Skateboard raffle and giveaways.

Come kickoff the weekend and show your support for NCSU's most beloved club at Hotbox that night... they do serve beer(with a proper I.D.) but we do not get the 15% on alcohol, so make sure you have the munchies too and order some food.

If you cant make it out, that's Okay, it works for deliveries too! Just hand the flier to the delivery guy.

Sometimes destruction is the greatest form of creation...

And sometimes destruction is just plain old destruction.

When me and Dan tried this double set the other night we both got worked to the bone.

It's a crazy feeling when your friend is getting wrecked on the same exact thing you are.

It did not feel like we were trying rob each other of the glory of successfully taming this beast.

A good metaphor would be if you came up on a friend, or brother, getting into a slug-fest with some kook... you get his back and deck that fool! no hesitation, no matter how big the dude is.

This ad for our first full-legth skate video 'Brick Magic' is simply a testament to our dedication and love for skateboarding and our friends. 

Some people are born with tragedy in their blood...

Others are driven by it.

With Nc Skate making moves we need support. As a fairly new club (and as skateboarders) it's damn hard to get funding from the school, so we are looking to the outside world.

Help has come from all over the skate community and we thank all of you.

The NC Skate Club is has been invited to a National Collegiate Skateboard Association contest in Las Vegas this April, as well as the Berrics Agenda trade show. We are currently doing everything we can to take advantage of these opportunities to represent and promote our club, our supporters, and our mission.

Speed Guns, Ghetto Rigs, and Pick-Ups...

The highlights from our last contest hosted by Simplistix. The homecoming of skateboarding brought out some rippers for the manny mania. Despite the janky boxes that were just finished the day before the event, these guys still managed to throw down some bangers.

The heavy hitters from manny mania included Chris, Logan, Diego, Jordan, Colin, a dude-wit-red-sneeks, and The Reigning Champ, John Keiper.

The second part of the video is clips from our first ever 'Fastest Fliptrick Challenge'.

Top gear performers were Nick White and Logan with 19mph kickflips, Charlie Brown with 17mph tre, and Doug Womack with 17mph hardflip.

It was wild.

For the Skaters, By the Skaters..

If you haven't already heard, Simplistix skateboards are becoming pretty familiar here at state. Simplistix has helped fuel our vast skateboard demands for many months now. Whether you've gotten your fresh Simplistix board from our very own NC Skate member, Daniel Martin, or from a local N.C. shop, we all owe thanks to the man who's making it happen, Steve Fox. Along with Simplistix, Steve helps run Exodus skateshop in Winston-Salem, NC. While on a trip with Dan this past weekend I had a chance to talk with Steve a bit and I found that he is willing to do whatever it takes to continue pumping boards into the roots of skating all around NC, including us here at state.
